The Bunbury Street Precinct Project is a major streetscape and transport enhancement initiative led by the City of Maribyrnong.

The project redesigned the entire length of Bunbury Street to improve safety, amenity, accessibility and public realm quality, while protecting significant heritage character. Design attributes included heritage-sensitive streetscape upgrades respecting bluestone kerbs and historic character, a new signalised intersection at Whitehall Street with raised pedestrian priority crossings, enhanced footpaths, shared paths and cycling connections, and comprehensive landscape improvements supporting canopy cover and pedestrian comfort.

MCG Consult delivered civil and transport engineering services in collaboration with McGregor Coxall. Key challenges overcome include complex underground utility coordination, constraints imposed by the below-ground rail tunnel, challenging drainage design due to flat grades and heritage constraints, and sensitive tree protection requiring careful excavation approaches.
